Hi there! I’m Brittany.
And I want to help you to turn your yard into a productive garden! I’m a master gardener, seasoned green thumb, and all-around handy gal who has been sharing my projects and plant knowledge online since 2014. My name is Brittany Goldwyn Merth, and I’ve been sharing my creative projects and plant pursuits online in one way or another for over a decade. I created by Brittany Goldwyn, a brand focused on accessible plant care and DIY home projects, in 2014 as an outlet to share my creative projects and love of plants. I occasionally posted gardening content, but it wasn’t the focus of my online presence.
In 2024, however, I was a bit burnt out with writing about houseplants and home projects…and, to be honest, I felt like I had said all I really wanted to say (for now, at least). I felt like focusing on sustainability and what we’re doing in our own yard was more important.
So I decided to pivot to YouTube and start sharing more of my love of gardening online in video format. The channel is called Quarter Acre Roots by me, Brittany Goldwyn, and this website is an outgrowth of that. You’ll find mostly the same content here, just in written form 🙂
I’m a certified Master Gardener and have a Certificate in Sustainable Horticulture Certificate, both completed through the University of Maryland. I also completed Oregon State University’s 12-course Master Gardener series, which included coursework on basic botany, entomology, plant pathology, pesticide safety, sustainable landscape design, small-space gardening, and more. I’m always learning and love being involved in my community.
Our entire lot is about one-quarter of an acre. And that includes everything…the house, the driveway, the front and side yards…so we really have to maximize space! If you’re looking to learn more about self-sufficiency and productivity in smaller spaces, this is the website for you. Because we truly believe that you do not need many acres or a farm to grow a seriously impressive amount.
